6th Grade Summer Math Assignment

Goal: To create a six chapter math textbook.

Textbook must include a title page, table of contents page as well as this assignment page and grading rubric.

Chapter 1: One paragraph summary report about a famous historical mathematician's work.

Chapter 2-6: must include the following 3 pages per chapter
     Page 1. Instruction page (explain how to solve)
     Page 2. Practice worksheet (10 sample problems including directions)
     Page 3. Worked out solution key (final answer circled)

Chapters 2-6 choose any 5 of the following topics:
     Rounding whole numbers (thousands, hundreds, tens, ones)
     Exponents
     Order of Operations
     Multiples
     Adding/Subtracting Decimals
     Multiplying/Dividing Decimals
     Adding/Subtracting Fractions
     Multiplying Fractions
     Dividing Fractions
     Solving Equations
     Converting Customary Units of Measurement of Length (inches, feet, yards, miles)
     Converting Metric Units of Measurement of Length (mm, cm, m, km)

Textbook must be bound (folder, construction paper/staples, etc) and will be written in personal best handwriting.  Please do not type.

Due Date: End of 2nd Week of School

Grading Rubric
     Title page and Table of Contents page = 10 points
     Chapter 1: Mathematician summary paragraph = 20 points
     Chapter 2: Topic 1 (3 pages) = 20 points
     Chapter 3: Topic 2 (3 pages) = 20 points
     Chapter 4: Topic 3 (3 pages) = 20 points
     Chapter 5: Topic 4 (3 pages) = 20 points
     Chapter 6: Topic 5 (3 pages) = 20 points
     Personal Best Binding/Handwriting = 20 points
     Include the grading rubric as last page of textbook = -5 points if missing
Total =  150 points
