Dear Thoreau Families:
As many of you know, with the current economic situation and looming state cuts, our district must make some adjustments in order to remain fiscally responsible. We are facing a budget shortfall of extreme proportions and our district is required to make challenging budget decisions for the 2016–2017 school year. The reality is the district’s financial resources are no longer adequate to maintain the current level of programming, and budget adjustments will have to be made.
One of the proposed adjustments is to eliminate funding for the programmatic offering of Extended Day at Thoreau Demonstration Academy. As you know, this program is an integral part of our school. It is designed to meet the social and emotional needs and interests of students at the end of the curricular day through exploratory and enrichment classes.
We fully understand how this change will affect the students at Thoreau if Extended Day is discontinued. Therefore, we are asking for your assistance to raise the $30,000.00 necessary to continue the current level of Extended Day programming.
