To the parents of Thoreau 8th graders,
The class of 2016 is in the final stretch of their months at Thoreau. As we begin to plan their next move for high school, we also want to celebrate their amazing journey through middle school! This letter is to give you some information about their special events at the end of the school year
The end of the 8th grade year is recognized with a morning Promotion program and reception on or near
the last week of school. Since the last day of school has yet to be determined because of snow days, the date for Promotion has not yet been set.
Following the Promotion program and reception, students will be allowed to change into casual clothes
(class t-shirt will be provided) for a fun afternoon with their classmates.
Lunch is also provided for the students. There will be more details to come once the date and activities are set.
In order to participate in this 8th Grade Day, the students must be in good standing at Thoreau, a permission
slip must be received in the office and the $30 - $40 fee (exact price yet to be determined) must be received.
If you would like to pay this fee in two payments, we will begin accepting payments after Spring Break.
Watch for notices about payment collection days in your email in March.
Permission slips will be distributed closer to the event.
Also, we will need volunteers to help make our 8th Grade Day go smoothly. We will advertise the exact day for the Promotion and 8th Grade Day activities as soon as we can, so that you can arrange to volunteer, if you are interested.
Enjoy your final semester at Thoreau! We look forward to planning a great Promotion and celebration for our students.
