ACT- Explore Test for 8th Graders

Dear Parents of Eighth Grade Students:

September 8, 2015

Your child will be participating in the American College Testing "Explore Program" October 6th-8th.  The program, which is sponsored by the Oklahoma Board of Regents, is designed to provide suggestions and activities to help identify student interests and evaluate their educational progress.  Additionally, career exploration, course work planning, and improved study skills are targeted in the program.  Ultimately, the program intends to bridge the gap between high school and college.

The ACT- Explore assessment will be administered to each eighth grade student and will require approximately three hours.  There will be mathematics, reading, English, and science reasoning sectionsalong with an interest inventory.  Each student will be given a copy of their results in an 8th grade class and the original is kept in their official cumulative folder. I would highly suggest you review these results with your student as some high schools are requiring a minimum score of 13 to apply.

Additionally, there will be a presentation on Explore and high school shadowing/ applicationprocess during Back to School night on September 22 at 6:00pm in the Thoreau Cafeteria.  Please feel free to contact Mrs. Janzen, the counselor, or me should you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Thomas A. Padalino, Principal

Erin Janzen, Counselor

Thoreau Demonstration Academy
