Good Afternoon Thoreau Parents,
I am in the process of developing a mentorship program here at Thoreau.
The first step is to develop a database of parents and community members
that are willing to professionally mentor a Thoreau student.

What is a mentorship?
A mentorship is typically a one-to-one working relationship between an
older expert and a younger talented individual.
The two often share common interests or career goals. Through these
relationships, students are able to mature, explore future careers and
successes, apply classroom knowledge, and gain role models. In a professional
mentoring relationship, a student is paired with a professional community
member who is working in the' student's area of interest or future career.
Students explore his or her interests more thoroughly through real-life application
by having a positive mentor established. (Clasen & Clasen, 1997).

Expectations for a Mentor-
· Get to know each other (student and mentor)
· Keep open communication (establish the best way to communicate)
· Share information about your career, career goals, and
your path of achieving your professional job

· Eventually invite student to visit and experience your job
After creating a database I will communicate the next steps for our mentorship

our students please respond to the questions below and email me at gordota@tulsaschools.org.
