Success at Thoreau

Success at Thoreau

Helping your child be successful in school can be as easy as 1, 2, 3.  School success depends on grades and discipline.

1.) Be sure to check grades on powerschool.  Emails from teachers re: homework, upcoming projects, tests, and other information are sent on Mondays. Ask to see the completed assignment from your child.

2.) Discipline at Thoreau comes in 2 forms.
A. Summons = lunch detention
B. Referrals- In-house or Out of school Suspension
C. District Behavior Response Plan books are sent home the 1st week of school.

3.) Ask your child if he/she received a summons or referral.  If so, discuss the behavior, consequences, and look at the paperwork your child was given.  Usually a teacher and/or the assistant principal will call and/or email to contact a parent for support.

When a child realizes that the school and parents are effectively communicating about school, they gain the structure needed to succeed in school.  We look forward to working with you and your child in having a successful year.
